The Lagos-Ibadan expressway’s Agbowo terminus experienced a multiple vehicle accident early on Tuesday that resulted in 16 confirmed deaths and 17 injuries, according to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).
35 people were engaged in the horrific accident, according to FRSC sources, 16 of them perished at the scene. The injured are being treated at Amdalat Hospital, Agbowo, in the Ibadan North local government area.
As far as can be reasonably determined, the deceased’s remains are at the State Hospital mortuary.
A truck carrying roofing sheets with registration number AKM 548 ZY, an 18-seater passenger Hummer bus, MUB 20LG, a Micra taxi, BDJ 520YC, and a Honda CR-V SUV, KRD 707 ER, were all involved in the collision that happened in the Agbowo/Ajao area.
According to an eyewitness testimony, the trucks carrying roofing sheets collided with the other four impacted vehicles.
There is a traffic bottleneck as a result of the collision, which was linked to a break failure combined with the ongoing highway construction.
The federal government could have prevented the accident, according to bystanders, if it had expedited the highway’s development.
They claim that because there is just one lane available for the automobiles, moving around is really challenging.
In an effort to reduce traffic in the neighborhood, they also requested that the construction company in charge of the project open the other lane.
But the FRSC has emphasized how important it is to launch a statewide education campaign for commercial drivers.
