Marcus Rashford Admits He Left Man United “To Be Happy” in Front-Page Sport Interview — Reveals Unexpected Barcelona Nickname

Marcus Rashford has broken his silence from the front page of Spanish sports daily Sport, candidly revealing that settling his happiness was the key reason behind his move from Manchester United to Barcelona. The England forward explained, “I need to be happy to play my best football… Barça is the easiest place to enjoy and learn football.”

The 27-year-old also shared a lighthearted moment from inside the dressing room: his teammates have nicknamed him “sweetie” a name he doesn’t quite understand yet but finds amusing as he adapts to life at Camp Nou. Rashford is learning Spanish and hopes to better understand what the nickname means, embracing every piece of Catalan culture in his new chapter.

This fresh start comes amid a turbulent time in his career. Formerly a Manchester United stalwart, Rashford joined Barcelona on loan in July 2025, with the Catalan giants holding an option to make the deal permanent for around €30 million. The move follows his loan spell at Aston Villa and a period of uncertainty at United under new management.

At Camp Nou, Rashford arrived with clear purpose. He said he felt welcomed immediately, calling the club a “family club”, and expressed ambition to win big trophies including the Champions League.  Already, his debut substitute appearance helped spark a dominant 3-0 La Liga win over Mallorca, marking the first competitive appearance by an English player for Barcelona since Gary Lineker in 1989.
