Chairman, AMGA 2024 LOC, Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Marquis, said the announcement of Olamide as AMGA2.024 Brand Ambassador is in line with the LOC’s goal of increasing the event’s visibility, particularly among young audiences throughout Africa.
“We are thrilled to welcome Olamide to the AMGA2024 family, with his influence, we believe he will not only raise awareness about the Games but also inspire a generation of Africans to celebrate our shared values and cultural heritage,” Marquis said, adding that Olamide embodies the spirit of resilience, creativity, and unity that defines the Africa Military Games. Known for his groundbreaking contributions to African music and his powerful influence on pop culture, Olamide will play a central role in promoting the Games and motivating Africans to support the athletes who will be competing.
Olamide, however, was thrilled about the chance to represent AMGA2024, saying, “It’s an incredible honor to be part of such a significant event that unites our continent through sports and shared values,” adding, “I look forward to using my voice to bring people together, celebrate our athletes, and promote the powerful message of unity that AMGA2024 represents.” He acknowledged the sacrifices made by the military and took pride in working with them as part of a larger initiative aimed at involving the entertainment industry in fostering opportunities for youth. He recalled how he had previously dedicated a song to the armed forces in 2016–2017 and expressed hope for more cooperation between society, the entertainment industry, and the military that can create opportunities for the youth.
Scheduled to take place in next week in Abuja, AMGA 2024 will bring together over 44 African nations, 2000 athletes both males and females in Abuja for an array of sporting events including; Badminton, Boxing, Basketball, Combat Swimming, Football, Golf, Judo, KickBoxing, Obstacle Crossing, Shooting, Squash, Table Tenis, Lawn Tenis, Teakwando, Volleyball, and Wrestling among other sporting activities, thus demonstrating how Sports Diplomacy can foster collaboration, strengthen partnership and build trust among the African nations.
As part of his role, Olamide will engage in promotional activities, including media appearances, social media campaigns, and on-ground activations. His involvement aims to generate widespread enthusiasm for the Games and build a lasting impact that goes beyond the event itself.
