MNJTF Commander: Nigerian troops killed 310 terrorists in the Lake Chad region.
According to the Multinational Joint Task Force, or MNJTF, it has destroyed vital logistical facilities in the Lake Chad region and killed 310 terrorists.
The terrorists were killed by task force troops during Operation Lake Sanity 2, a significant attack intended to quell the local insurrection.
During the Operation Lake Sanity 2 Medal Parade on Wednesday at the MNJTF Headquarters in Farcha, N’Djamena, Chad, Force Commander Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Salau made this statement.
He said that the MNJTF had achieved victories and assisted in the repatriation of more than 30,000 internally displaced people and refugees, allowing them to return to their towns and resume regular lives.
According to Mr. Salau, the operation, which took place between April 23 and July 22, 2024, killed 310 terrorists, dismantled important terrorists’ logistical hubs, and detained 160 informants and logistic suppliers.
Furthermore, more than 800 terrorists and their families turned themselves in, suggesting that support for terrorism is waning.
Although recognizing the efforts of Amnifakat, Gamma Aiki, Yankin Tafki 1 and 2, and Lake Sanity 2, Salau credited the accomplishment to the assistance of the Lake Chad Basin Development Commission and the contributing nations.
Six powerful task forces united against terrorism were formed by cooperation between ground forces and air units from Cameroon, Chad, and Nigeria. The operation’s success was also aided by the Nigerien Republic’s limited air support, he said.
“Compensation ceremonies have been held in Cameroon and Nigeria for fallen and injured soldiers in the past, and Sector 2 in Chad will have a similar ceremony to honor their memories,” he said.
Mr. Salau claims that the purpose of the celebration in Chad is to honor the soldiers’ sacrifices during Operation Lake Sanity 2, in which a number of soldiers were killed and wounded.
Mr. Salau praised development partners for helping to improve security and stability in the region.
Issaka Malloua Djamous, the minister of defense for Chad, reaffirmed the country’s dedication to regional peace and stability.
Operation Lake Sannity, according to Mr. Djamous, was crucial in the battle against Boko Haram since it destroyed terrorists’ bases, averting many dangers.
He emphasized the need for improved human and material capabilities and ordered troops to increase their alertness against changing terrorist tactics.
In addition to calling for greater regional collaboration and member state commitment, the minister praised the European Union and other partners for their training and equipment contributions.
