Mo Bimpe’s doubts regarding our union: An explanation by Lateef Adedimeji
In a recent interview with Chude, actor and filmmaker Lateef Adedimeji told the amusing tale of how he proposed to his wife, Bimpe Oyebade-Adedimeji.
He disclosed that when he made the phone proposal, Mo Bimpe believed he was kidding.
Lateef claims that Mo Bimpe’s first reluctance stemmed from his Islamic faith, as she was afraid her father would disapprove.
After telling her I wanted to ask her a question over the phone, I declared my intention to wed her. “What is doing this one?” she said in jest. Leave now! Are you comfortable with me not being married to a Muslim? He remarked, “My dad won’t even hear that.”
He described how he set up a meeting with Mo Bimpe’s father and requested her hand in marriage.
The father of Mo Bimpe consented to the union after pledging to look after his daughter.
After that, I assured her that I would talk to her father and help him relax. During one of their masquerade festivities, we traveled to her hamlet, and at the conclusion, I asked to visit her father. He claimed that he would pray and get back to me after I assured him that I would look after his daughter.
Prior to their wedding, the couple had often denied having a romantic relationship, but Lateef disclosed that they had dated for roughly three months.
“We only dated for two or three months before getting married, so the proposal wasn’t planned,” he continued.
Lateef and Mo Bimpe were married in December 2021 in Lagos State with a Nikkai ceremony and in Ekiti State with a traditional wedding.
