My Father Helped Me Beat His Records — Femi Adebayo
Nollywood actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo has credited his legendary father, Adebayo Salami (popularly known as Oga Bello), for playing a pivotal role in helping him surpass some of the milestones set in his illustrious career. In a recent interview, Femi shared heartfelt reflections on how his father’s guidance, support, and legacy laid the foundation for his success in the Nigerian film industry.
According to the Jagun Jagun star, while comparisons between him and his father are common, what many people don’t see is the level of encouragement and wisdom his father consistently offered behind the scenes. “My father helped me beat his records,” Femi declared. “He never saw me as competition; he saw me as an extension of his legacy, and he gave me all the tools I needed to thrive.”
Adebayo Salami, a veteran actor and producer with over four decades of experience, is revered as one of the pioneers of Yoruba cinema. Femi revealed that growing up under his mentorship exposed him early to the intricacies of storytelling, discipline, and professionalism that now define his brand.
Femi Adebayo’s rise in Nollywood has been nothing short of remarkable. With multiple box office hits, including King of Thieves and Jagun Jagun, he has carved out a space for himself, earning critical acclaim and industry recognition. Yet, he remains humble about his achievements, always quick to acknowledge the foundation laid by his father.
“Without his belief in me, I wouldn’t be where I am today. He gave me the freedom to express myself while making sure I never lost my values,” Femi added.
As one of the few second-generation actors in Nollywood who have managed to elevate their family name while forging their own path, Femi Adebayo continues to shine proving that with the right mentorship and legacy, greatness can be sustained and surpassed.
