Naval Base, Seaport to Transform Ogun’s Economic Landscape — Senator Gbenga Daniel
Senator Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East Senatorial District, has stated that the ongoing plans to establish a naval base and deep seaport in Ogun State will significantly reshape the state’s economic landscape and position it as a major hub for maritime and industrial activities in Nigeria.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement in Ijebu Ode, Daniel emphasized that both projects will not only enhance security along the state’s coastal lines but also create thousands of job opportunities, boost trade, and attract foreign direct investments.
According to the former Ogun State Governor, the naval base will play a crucial role in strengthening maritime security and curbing illegal activities along the state’s waterways. He added that the Ogun Seaport project, when completed, will decongest Lagos ports and provide a more efficient alternative for cargo handling and logistics in the South-West.
“These strategic projects are not just about infrastructure; they are about economic transformation, security, and long-term development. Ogun State is ready to take its rightful place as a leading industrial destination in Nigeria,” Daniel said.
He also noted that the state government, in collaboration with federal authorities and private investors, is working to ensure that the necessary approvals, designs, and funding frameworks are finalized to make the projects a reality.
Residents and business leaders in Ogun have lauded the development, describing it as a game-changer that will open new frontiers for trade, tourism, and investment in the region.
With the naval base and seaport projects in motion, Ogun State is poised for a new era of economic growth, industrial expansion, and regional competitiveness.
