NDDC Has Started Building the Kaa-Ataba Bridge in Rivers
PORT HARCOURT: The Kaa-Ataba Road and bridges, which connect the Khana Local Government Area and the Andoni Local Government Area in Rivers State, are currently being built again by the Niger Delta Development Commission, or NDDC.
Speaking at the bridge site, Engr. Lawrence Ekanem, the project supervisor, called the multibillion-naira project impressive and ambitious.
According to him, the bridges and road would improve socioeconomic activity in the settlements of Kaa, Ataba, and the surrounding area.
In a statement released on Thursday by Seledi Thompson-Wakama, Director of Corporate Affairs at NDDC, Ekanem promised that his organization would take every possible step to guarantee the project’s timely completion.
“We are dedicated to delivering on speed and quality,” he stated.
Mr. Backpo Godspower, the project’s Community Liaison Officer, praised the NDDC for its assistance and urged for its prompt completion, which began in 2009.
“The NDDC has done a good job of starting the bridge project again, but we want them to finish it so that there is a smooth connection between the towns that are divided by the river. The completion of the bridge will boost local socioeconomic activity.
According to Godspower, the project would improve socioeconomic activity, open up local communities, and lower the number of accidents caused by crossing the river.
He noted: “The two-kilometer double-lane single-carryway with two bridges will help transport farm produce, goods, and properties from this rich agricultural area, as well as improve the quality of life for the residents of Kaa and Ataba.” More significantly, it will lower the number of mishaps and security lapses related to water transportation.
Deacon Bassey Lezua, a Kaa community leader, expressed happiness that the project, which had been abandoned and had been put on hold for a few years, had been brought back to life.
“The contractor has returned to the site, and we will provide them with all the assistance they require to finish the project,” he said. According to him, several towns were crucial hubs for development, such as Oyorokoto, one of the biggest fishing ports in the area.
Businesses in the Kaa hamlet could only prosper if the road was finished, therefore Mrs. Zorbari Pimnee, a businesswoman, encouraged the NDDC to make sure the contractor did not scuttle the project again.
