Ndume Urges Tinubu to Extend US Airstrikes to North-East to Tackle Insurgency
Senator Ali Ndume has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to extend recent United States-supported airstrikes to Nigeria’s North-East region, stressing that the area remains a major hotspot for insurgency and terrorist activities.
Speaking amid ongoing security operations across parts of the country, the Borno South senator argued that while intensified military actions in the North-West are commendable, similar measures are urgently needed in the North-East to fully dismantle terrorist networks operating there.
Ndume noted that insurgent groups, including Boko Haram and ISWAP factions, continue to exploit difficult terrains in the North-East to regroup and launch attacks on civilians, security personnel, and critical infrastructure. According to him, expanding aerial surveillance and precision strikes would significantly weaken the operational capacity of these groups.
He further emphasised that insecurity in the region has continued to affect economic activities, humanitarian efforts, and the safe return of displaced persons. Ndume urged the federal government to adopt a comprehensive, nationwide security strategy that leaves no region behind.
The senator also praised the growing security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States, describing it as a vital step toward intelligence sharing, advanced surveillance, and modern counter-terrorism tactics. He expressed confidence that sustained international collaboration would help restore peace and stability across affected regions.
President Tinubu has repeatedly reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity through military reforms, improved intelligence gathering, and stronger partnerships with global allies. Calls such as Ndume’s add to mounting pressure for broader security interventions as Nigerians demand lasting solutions to years of violence.
