NGO Distributes Food Palliatives to 500 Households, Urges Stronger Focus on Nutrition

A non-governmental organisation (NGO) has distributed food palliatives to no fewer than 500 households as part of its ongoing humanitarian outreach aimed at easing the impact of rising living costs on vulnerable communities.

The distribution exercise, which took place over the weekend, targeted low-income families, widows, the elderly and households affected by food insecurity. Beneficiaries received essential food items including rice, beans, cooking oil and other staples designed to provide short-term relief and improve household food access.

Speaking during the outreach, representatives of the NGO stressed that while food palliatives remain crucial during economic hardship, there is a growing need for policies and interventions that prioritise nutrition-focused support rather than emergency aid alone. The organisation called on government agencies, private partners and development stakeholders to invest in sustainable nutrition programmes that address malnutrition, especially among children and pregnant women.

Community leaders who witnessed the distribution commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. Many beneficiaries expressed gratitude, noting that such interventions help cushion daily survival challenges while longer-term solutions are pursued.

The NGO reaffirmed its commitment to continued community engagement, nutrition education and advocacy for sustainable food systems that promote dignity, health and resilience among vulnerable populations.
