No Law Stops My Sons from Accompanying Me on Official Trips — Wike
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has responded to public criticism over the presence of his sons during some of his official trips, asserting that no law in Nigeria forbids his children from accompanying him on government assignments.
Wike made this clarification while addressing journalists in Abuja, stating that his sons’ presence on such trips does not interfere with his official duties or government protocols. According to the former Rivers State Governor, the issue has been unnecessarily politicized by individuals looking to drag his name into controversy.
“I’ve heard all sorts of comments about my sons traveling with me. There’s no law that says a Minister’s children can’t travel with him. My sons have their lives to live, and accompanying me does not violate any official guideline,” Wike emphasized.
He further stated that as a public official, he remains accountable to the people but will not tolerate attempts to twist personal matters into political attacks. The FCT Minister also used the opportunity to reaffirm his commitment to delivering on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the nation’s capital.
“Our focus should be on development, infrastructure, and service delivery not trivial family issues that add nothing to governance,” he added.
Political analysts believe Wike’s response was aimed at silencing critics who have consistently scrutinized his personal choices since assuming office as FCT Minister.
With this latest statement, the outspoken politician has once again proven his readiness to defend his actions while keeping his leadership priorities in focus.
