Ogun Govt Suspends School Principals Over Illegal Fees Collection

The Ogun State Government has suspended some secondary school principals across the state for allegedly engaging in the collection of illegal fees from students.

The action was confirmed by the State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, who emphasized that the government had provided clear directives regarding approved school fees. According to the Commissioner, any violation of these rules amounts to exploitation of parents and students, which will not be tolerated.

Reports indicate that the affected principals were found guilty of introducing unauthorized levies, contrary to government’s free education policy. The state government described their actions as “a breach of trust and abuse of office,” stressing that discipline must be maintained within the education system.

Parents and guardians had earlier raised concerns about extra charges in some schools, prompting the ministry to launch investigations. The suspension is seen as a strong signal that the Ogun government is committed to ensuring accountability in public schools.

The Commissioner further warned other school heads to desist from illegal practices, insisting that education should remain affordable and accessible to every child in the state.

This development has generated mixed reactions, with some parents applauding the government’s decision while others are calling for more transparent monitoring systems to prevent such cases in the future.
