Olanipekun Calls for Unity Among Traditional Rulers in South-West Nigeria
Elder statesman and respected legal luminary, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), has called on traditional rulers across South-West Nigeria to foster stronger unity and cooperation in the interest of regional progress and cultural preservation. Speaking at a gathering of royal fathers and stakeholders, Olanipekun stressed that cohesion among monarchs remains vital to sustaining peace, promoting good governance, and protecting the rich heritage of the Yoruba people.
He noted that traditional institutions continue to play a critical role in community development, conflict resolution, and moral leadership, even in a rapidly modernising society. According to Olanipekun, when royal fathers speak with one voice, their influence becomes more impactful in addressing socio-economic challenges, mediating disputes, and supporting government initiatives aimed at grassroots development.
The senior advocate further urged traditional rulers to rise above divisions and personal interests, emphasizing that unity would strengthen their relevance in national discourse. He encouraged continuous dialogue, mutual respect, and collaboration among monarchs, adding that a united traditional leadership structure would better safeguard customs while contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s democratic and developmental goals.
