Prince Oloyede Ibrahim Asawale Asanike, son of former Olubadan of Ibadan land, HIM, Oba Yesufu Oloyede Asanike has emerged the Young Democratic Party, YDP candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District.
Asanike, in the party primary conducted by the Comrade Tanigbola Ola-Sunkanmi “Courage”-led electoral panel which was held at the party Secretariat at Odo Ona Apata, Ibadan at the weekend, scored 840 votes to emerged unopposed while 12 votes were void. Earlier, other contestants in the race have unanimously step down for him in the interest of the party.
With his emergence, Prince Asanike will be slugging it out with the incumbent Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who also just won his party ticket and others in the 2019 general election for Oyo South senate seat in upper legislative chamber.
The senatorial district comprises of nine local government areas to include Ibarapa North, Ibarapa East, Ibarapa Central, Ido, Ibadan North, Ibadan South East, Ibadan South West, Ibadan North East and Ibadan North West respectively.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Omooba Asanike as fondly called by his admirers and associate thanked the leadership of the party and members for believing in him and the younger generation, adding that giving the younger generation the opportunity to partake in governance will no doubt bring fresh ideas into the polity.
He however said he didn’t join the big parties in the country, because he belief that the electorates are the greatest umpire, who will decide who win the election. He however assured the people of Oyo South Senatorial District of quality representation and even disribution of dividend of democracy.
“They call us the leaders of tomorrow and our tomorrow begins today, my intention to run for the senate is borne out of my wish to contribute my own quota to the national debate and the progress of the nation. I wish to bring Ibadan State and also worked with like minds in the National Assembly to move Nigeria to the next level” said he.
“The people of Oyo South Senatorial District should expect greater performance from the Senate, because we are young, vibrant and intelligent. God help Nigeria.
In his address, the Chairman of the party, Comrade Christopher Ayantoye enjoined the contestants not to see election as do or die affairs, Adding that they should join hand together with the winner of the primary to win election for the party. He pointed that the party leadership have greater confidence in Asanike and no doubt that he will deliver the senatorial district for the party, adding that his late father was one of the greatest rulers of Ibadan land and he will no doubt use the goodwill of his father, who was adjudged as the builder of modern Ibadan monarchy system to win the election come next year.
