Nollywood Actor, Olumide Oworu Opens Up – Why I Joined Politics

Olumide Oworu, a Nollywood actor, has stated that his desire to be among the changemakers in Nigeria is what inspired him to enter politics and seek for government in the 2023 elections.
Oworu declared that he would run for the Lagos Assembly’s Surulere Constituency 1 seat on behalf of the Labour Party (LP).
However, after his name was not on the electoral body’s result sheet, the thespian’s candidacy became a topic of discussion on social media.
Desmond Elliot, a senior colleague of Olumide, ran on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and ultimately won the constituency seat.

“Almost nothing minus the entertainment industry, sports, and a few other industries have anything positive. Everything else just seems to be nosediving and I actually want to be a part of the people that are going to make some form of change in the society.”

In an interview with entertainment journalist Seun Olekutiyi, on the podcast, Nollywood On Radio, Olumide voiced discontent with the country’s current status, noting that several industries and sectors have been on a downhill spiral.

The movie actor said he wants to live and raise his family in Nigeria, highlighting the need for communal involvement in the country’s affairs.

“All we have to do is participate in our affairs,” he stated. Nigeria is a good country with lots of prospects, and I wish to live there and raise my family there. It is depressing to realize that we are simply on a downward spiral because I am aware of how things were when I was growing up.
