One Feared Dead During Cult Initiation Ritual in Edo State
Tragedy struck in Edo State as one person reportedly lost his life during a suspected cult initiation ceremony in the early hours of Sunday. The disturbing incident occurred in a remote community near Benin City, sending shockwaves through the area and prompting heightened security presence.
According to local sources, the initiation turned fatal after a violent clash erupted among rival cult groups involved in the ceremony. The deceased, believed to be a young man in his twenties, sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead before medical help could arrive. Several others reportedly fled the scene, while a few suspects have been apprehended by the police.
The Edo State Police Command has since confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation is underway to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the death. Police spokesperson Chidi Nwabuzor urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement authorities to restore peace in the community.
Incidents of cult-related violence have been on the rise in parts of Edo, especially in tertiary institutions and suburban areas. Stakeholders have repeatedly called for collaborative efforts between government agencies, community leaders, and youth groups to curb the growing menace.
The latest incident underscores the urgent need for intensified anti-cultism campaigns and enforcement of laws prohibiting cult activities. As families mourn the loss of a young life, concerns continue to grow about the unchecked influence of cult groups in the region.
