Oyebanji Denies Defection Plot to ADC, Dismisses Fayemi’s Alleged Coalition Plans
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has firmly denied rumors of a defection plot to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), calling the reports baseless and politically motivated. The governor also distanced himself from alleged plans by former Governor Kayode Fayemi to lead a new political coalition ahead of the next general elections.
In a statement released by his media team, Oyebanji described the claims as fabricated attempts to destabilize the unity within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti and beyond. He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the APC, stating that he remains focused on delivering the mandate given to him by the people.
“There is no truth in any report linking me to the ADC or any defection move. My focus remains on governance and fulfilling our promises to Ekiti people,” the statement read.
The governor also cautioned against dragging his name into political schemes that do not reflect his values or priorities. The rumors, which surfaced online and were amplified on social media, had suggested that both Oyebanji and Fayemi were planning a strategic political shift, with Fayemi allegedly plotting to lead a coalition of like-minded politicians dissatisfied with the current APC structure.
However, sources close to both politicians have dismissed the claims, insisting there is no rift and no plan to abandon the ruling party. Oyebanji emphasized that his administration is committed to stability, progress, and party loyalty, and he urged the public to disregard what he termed a distraction.
With this firm denial, Governor Oyebanji has reiterated his loyalty to the APC and reaffirmed that his relationship with former Governor Fayemi remains cordial and focused on the development of Ekiti State.
