Oyo SDP Chair Remorsefully Apologise to Gov Candidate Over Election Comments
The chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State, Honourable Michael Okunlade, at the weekend apologised to the party governorship candidate, Barrister Michael Lana, over comments he (Okunlade) made before election in the state.
A few days before the governorship/House of As sembly election, the SDP candidate, Lana, alongside some SDP members joinedPDP a situation which led to disagreements between Lana and Okunlade. But in a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan, the SDP state chair-man maintained some of his words
uttered at the heat of the moment in reaction to Lana's choice to work against his party, were unhelpful and that he is retracting same in the interest of peace.
As a state chairman, the election has come and gone, we need to make peace for the party to move forward. Though as a party, we view Barrister Lana's ac- don as being against the in- terest of the SDP, I have re- alised that my comments at the time were out of
place.
We need to make peace for us to move forward, so I retract those words and apologise to Barrister Lana a respected lawyer, who I hold in high esteem.
The party has to move forward and I apologise for all altercations and name callings that have character- ized the party in the last few months. "During the
fighting, we had cause to trade words, "ija lode lorin dowe" but let us put all that behind us in the interest of our party. Barrister Lana is an erudite lawyer. He can't trade his children for money. He is a well-known lawyer that has won many cases. I
withdraw the statement that he can trade his children for anything.
