PAINED?? Mourinho Speaks On Zidane’s Re-Appointment As Real Madrid Manager After Missing Out
Jose Mourinho believes Real Madrid’s decision to name Zinedine Zidane as their new boss was a step in the right direction.
According to Metro, the Portuguese tactician, who was sent packing by Man United mid-December was close to a return to the Santiago Bernabeu after talks with Madrid president Florentino Perez, but senior squad members, including skipper Sergio Ramos, objected the decision to bring back Mourinho.
Thus Perez had to move for Zidane, who previously stepped aside as manager at the end of 2017-18 campaign, after leading the Los Blancos to three successive Champions League trophy.
“Zidane is perfect for Madrid and this is perfect for himself for another great opportunity to show how good he is with a new project after the fantastic things he has achieved in recent years,” Mourinho was quoted as saying by El Chiringuito while reacting on Zidane’s appointment.
“I think it is perfect and fantastic,” the former Chelsea boss said, even as he was quick to add he was never disappointed by Madrid’s decision not to hire him.
“I never said I wanted it or not.
“I just told you Zidane to Madrid is perfect,” he stressed.
“Why would they need to give me an explanation?,” Mourinho responded to a question if Real Madrid offered him an explanation after missing the managerial role.
