Pogba ‘Happy’ At Man United, Club’s Manager Solksjaer Says In Response To Transfer Speculation
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that Paul Pogba is happy at Manchester United, despite ongoing speculation around his future, but admits he cannot guarantee Pogba’s long-term future at the club.
The club’s boss comment comes after the player’s manager, Mino Raiola publicly declared that Pogba was “unhappy” and that a move away from United was the only option given his unwillingness to sign a contract extension.
Pogba, voted United’s player of the month for January, is out of contract at the end of next season, with his agent having repeatedly tried to get him out of Old Trafford.
His contract expires in the summer of 2022 and there have been no talks over a new deal for the midfielder.
Although the midfielder has continually been linked with a transfer, but the manager wouldn’t be drawn on how long he will be at the club.
Pogba’s brother earlier this week said the club would have to sell him in the next transfer window if they wanted to make any money or he would leave on a free transfer the year after.
United now face a dilemma over their £89million club-record signing – sell him this summer or allow him to enter the final year of his deal and risk losing him for nothing in 2022.
Solskjaer hailed Pogba’s recent form but was unable to provide assurances about the World Cup winner’s future when asked how he can convince him he is best served by staying at United.
The club’s manager, whose side face Everton on Saturday, stated;
Speculation about Paul is always going to be there. We’ve got a good, open dialogue with Paul, but what we talk about and how we see that situation remains between us. I’m just happy he’s focused, that he’s playing really well and that he’s happy within himself. That’s important – you can see Paul enjoying football himself with a red shirt on.
He added;
Our conversations remain private, of course. But Paul is a Man United player through and through. He’s been here in two spells. He came as a kid and he’s learnt about the history of the club, the passion of the club, and he wants to do the best for Man United when he’s here. We’ve seen that he really cares for his team and he’s trying to be as successful as everyone else. But our conversations must remain private.
After getting back to full fitness following successive injuries and a bout of COVID-19, Pogba has been in fine form.
He was voted fans’ player of the month for January and also picked up the monthly award for goal of the month for his impressive strike against Fulham.
The French international has scored three goals in 14 Premier League appearances for United this term.
