Police and Armed Robbers Fight in Ogun, Killing One
A member of a robbery gang operating in the Sagamu/Ijebuode area of Ogun State was slain by Nigeria Police Force agents in the state.
The robbers were operating close to Western University, which is located before the set of bridges along the expressway, according to a statement issued on Sunday by Omolola Odutola, the commanding officer of the Ogun State Police Command.
According to her, the Divisional Police Officer of Odogbolu received a notification that armed robbers had blocked the Sagamu/Ijebu-Ode route near Western University and several bridges.
She added that he immediately put together his patrol unit after receiving the complaint, collaborating with police teams from Amateko and Obalende who arrived on the scene in a timely manner.
According to Odutola, “a gun was found at the scene, the body of the neutralized robber has been placed at the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital Morgue, and one of the robbers was fatally wounded during the encounter, while others managed to escape through a nearby bush with bullet wounds.”
She said that efforts are currently underway to apprehend the fugitive suspects and that more information will be released as it becomes available.
According to Odutola, Lanre Ogunlowo, the state commissioner of police, has ordered that highway patrols and surveillance continue to ensure the safety of travellers.
