Police Arraign Suspected Assassin for Murder in Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a suspected assassin in connection with the brutal murder of a 49-year-old man in the Ikorodu area of the state. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Rasak Babatunde, was brought before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court on charges of conspiracy and murder following weeks of investigation.
According to the police, Babatunde allegedly conspired with others still at large to assassinate the victim, who was lured to a location in Ikorodu and shot at close range. The deceased, whose identity has been withheld pending full family notification, was confirmed dead at the scene.
The suspect was tracked and arrested after a detailed forensic analysis and intelligence-gathering led officers to his hideout. During interrogation, Babatunde reportedly gave conflicting statements, which raised further suspicion and led to his immediate prosecution.
At the court hearing, the police prosecutor stated that the offence committed contravenes Sections 233 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The magistrate, while ordering that the suspect be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, adjourned the case pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The Lagos State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing justice for the slain victim and ensuring that all those involved in the heinous crime are brought to book. Residents of the Ikorodu community have commended the swift response by the police and called for thorough investigations to uncover all parties connected to the assassination plot.
This case adds to the growing concerns over targeted killings and cult-related violence in Lagos, prompting renewed calls for intensified security measures and community vigilance across the state.
