Police Arrest Two Suspected One-Chance Robbers in Oyo
The Oyo State Police Command has successfully apprehended two suspected one-chance robbers who have been terrorizing unsuspecting commuters within the state. The arrest, which took place earlier this week, follows a well-coordinated operation based on intelligence gathering and swift tactical response by the anti-crime unit.
According to a statement released by the command, the two suspects were arrested along the Ibadan-Iwo Road axis — an area that has recently experienced a surge in one-chance robbery cases. The duo reportedly posed as commercial vehicle operators, targeting passengers and dispossessing them of their valuables after boarding.
Recovered from the suspects were several stolen items, including mobile phones, bags, cash, and a vehicle believed to have been used in carrying out the operations. The police also disclosed that the suspects had confessed to multiple robberies across Ibadan and its environs.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police commended the efforts of the officers involved and reiterated the command’s commitment to flushing out criminal elements from the state. “We are intensifying patrols and surveillance across major roads and transport hubs. No one who engages in such acts will escape justice,” he said.
Residents have applauded the arrest, calling for continued vigilance and stronger security presence, especially in public transport areas known to be hotspots for one-chance robbery syndicates.
The police further urged commuters to be cautious when boarding vehicles and to report suspicious activity promptly. As investigations continue, the suspects are expected to be charged to court upon conclusion of the case file.
This latest development signals progress in the fight against urban crime in Oyo and serves as a warning to others involved in similar criminal activities.
