Police Rescue 17 Suspected Human Trafficking Victims in Nasarawa
The Nigeria Police Force has rescued 17 suspected victims of human trafficking in Nasarawa State, in a coordinated operation aimed at disrupting illegal trafficking networks.
According to police sources, the victims were intercepted during an intelligence-driven raid after security operatives received credible information about a suspected trafficking route being used to transport individuals to unknown destinations. Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were allegedly being moved under false promises of employment and better living conditions.
Police authorities confirmed that the rescued individuals have been taken into protective custody, where they are currently receiving care and undergoing further screening. The victims are also expected to be handed over to relevant government agencies and non-governmental organisations for rehabilitation and support.
Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the suspected traffickers behind the operation. The police reiterated their commitment to combating human trafficking and warned members of the public to be cautious of offers that appear too good to be true, especially those involving overseas travel or employment.
Human trafficking remains a serious concern in Nigeria, with security agencies intensifying collaboration to dismantle syndicates involved in the exploitation of vulnerable individuals.
