Popular Islamic Cleric Sheikh Usman Kusfa ‘Rigi-Rigi’ Dies at 57
Renowned Nigerian Islamic cleric Sheikh Usman Idris Kusfa, widely known by his nickname “Rigi-Rigi,” has died at the age of 57. The news of his passing was confirmed on Monday by a senior disciple, Malam Nasiruddeen Umar (Baharu), during a statement in Zaria, Kaduna State.
Sheikh Kusfa passed away early on Monday at a private hospital in Kaduna, where he had been receiving treatment after battling an illness for several months.
The late cleric was a prominent figure in Islamic teaching and was widely respected for his engaging preaching style and teachings. His messages were not only shared in mosques and religious circles but also gained significant popularity on TikTok and other social media platforms, where clips of his sermons drew attention from a broader audience.
Sheikh Rigi-Rigi is survived by his four wives, 37 children, and numerous grandchildren. His funeral prayer is scheduled to take place in Kusfa, Zaria City, later on the same day of the announcement.
Followers and members of the Muslim community have begun paying tribute to the cleric online and in person, remembering him not only for his knowledge of Islam but also for his ability to connect with both older and younger generations through a blend of tradition and modern communication.
