President Buhari Presides Over Federal Executive Council Meeting
President Muhammadu Buhari has presided over the Federal Executive Council meeting at the statehouse in Abuja on Wednesday amid violence against Nigerians protesting across the country over police brutality.
Over the past 12 days, many Nigerians have taken to the streets in various cities and states protesting, demanding a peaceful and safe society for all.
However, some of the gatherings were hijacked by thugs who brutalised the protesters and at other times were attacked by military men and police.
Many lives have been lost in the course of these incidents, several others have sustained varying degrees of injury and in the bid to curtail the violence, some states imposed curfews.
Present at the FEC meeting today were Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, National Security Adviser (NSA), retired Major General Babagana Mungonu.
Ministers, who were physically present at the Council Chambers, are those of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed; Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Hajiya Zainab Ahmed; Justice, Abubakar Malami; Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire and Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu.
Other ministers and the Head of Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan participated in the weekly council meeting virtually from their various offices in Abuja.
This comes amid demand for a nationwide live broadcast from President Buhari, as he has only addressed the uprising across the country via statements made via pre-recorded videos and tweets on his official Twitter page.
