Ramadan: Ex-Gov Donates Over 200 Trucks Of Food Items For Less Privilege
Alhaji Abdul’aziz Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State, gave 240 trucks worth of food to APC members, IDPs (internally displaced people), orphans, and other categories of the poor in their state as part of the Ramadan Welfare Package.
The items reportedly include rice, maize, sugar, and millet, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
The APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, presided over the distributions, which were held on Sunday in Talata-Mafara Town in the Talata-Mafara Local Government Area. Senator Adamu was represented by the APC North-East Zonal Vice Chairman, Alhaji Salihu Mustafa.
The annual gesture, according to Yari, is intended to ease difficulty for state residents, particularly during the Ramadan fast.
He said out of the 240 trucks of food items, 140 would be distributed to the 14 local government areas of the state, 10 trucks per each LGA.
“Thirty-two trucks are for IDPs, 12 trucks for orphans, 10 trucks for groups and associations and 46 trucks for Islamic scholars and other underprivileged people, among others,” he said.
Yari urged the distribution committees to ensure justice and fairness.
In his remarks, Governor Bello Matawalle, represented by his deputy, Hassan Nasiha, commended Yari for the gesture.
Matawalle noted that the gesture was in line with the manifesto of the APC.
“You know the APC is the party of grassroots people. I am appealing to those given the responsibility to distribute the items to make sure that it reaches the targeted beneficiaries,” the governor said.
Meanwhile, the Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society has announced plans to feed 2,000 persons daily in the spirit of Ramadan in order to maximise the rewards of the holy month.
The Chief Imam of the society, Fuad Adeyemi, disclosed this at the 19th National Unity Ramadan Lecture on Sunday in Abuja.
The theme for this year’s event was, “Ramadan Lesson: Inspiration for Reform.”
The chief Imam said, “Let me tell you, over the years, the first day of Ramadan usually recorded a relatively low turnout and will peak by the fourth or fifth day of Ramadan.
“We were marveled this year, we prepared 1,000 meals and we were surprised that the first-day turnout was over 2,000, meaning this is a challenge, but we have a firm belief in Allah, that with you, the challenge will be surmountable.”
