An 18-year-old girl was shot to death – allegedly by the man who kidnapped her – just days after he was released from jail.
Destinee Virgin of Columbus, Ohio was shot and killed on Saturday night, according to Muscogee County Chief Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley.
Destinee was kidnapped in April, by her then 17 year old boyfriend Markel Ervin. The couple’s relationship fraught with domestic violence and she was 17 at that time.
At the time Markel Ervin, 17, was charged by police with kidnapping and false imprisonment. Police say that he held the teen almost 48 hours and struck her in the face.
Police suspect that Markel may have been the person responsible for killing Destinee. He was recently released from jail – on the kidnapping charges.
Authorities say that the killer fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, which was a gray 2004 Nissan Maxima four-door sedan with a paper tag, according to a police report. Police described the suspect as a black male, about 5-feet, 9-inches tall with a “skinny build” and an age range between 17 and 21 years.
