
Sanwo-Olu Confirms 8 Fatalities, 13 Survivors in GNI Building Fire Incident
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has confirmed that eight people lost their lives while 13 others survived following the devastating fire outbreak at the GNI Building in Lagos.
The governor disclosed this while providing an official update on the incident, describing the fire as a tragic event that has deeply affected the state. According to Sanwo-Olu, emergency responders acted swiftly after the fire broke out, working under intense conditions to rescue trapped occupants and contain the blaze.
He praised the efforts of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and other first responders, noting that their rapid intervention helped prevent a higher casualty figure. Survivors were rescued from the building and immediately taken to medical facilities for treatment.
Sanwo-Olu also expressed condolences to the families of the victims, assuring them of the state government’s support during this difficult time. He added that investigations have commenced to determine the cause of the fire and assess compliance with safety regulations at the affected building.
The Lagos State Government reiterated its commitment to enforcing building safety standards and improving emergency preparedness across the state to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
