Sarri wants Okereke at Lazio
SS Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri is eyeing a move for Nigerian striker David Okereke ahead of the new 2022/23 Serie A season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Sarri who guided Lazio to fifth on the league table last campaign, is searching for back up forward for Ciro Immobile who netted an astonishing 27 goals in 31 league games in the Italian top-flight last season according to Diretta Goal.
Okereke spent last season on loan at Venezia and was one of the bright spots during a terrible campaign for the Winged Lions.
The 24-year-old scored seven goals and added another assist, but it was not enough to prevent Venezia from finishing bottom in Serie A and getting relegated.
Okereke still one year left on his current deal with Club Brugges but is not willing to return to the club.
Brugge are willing to let the Nigerian youth international leave permanently this summer and will look to recoup a significant part of the €8m they paid Spezia for his services in 2019.
“I had my plans for the season but I couldn’t achieve it. It wasn’t that bad, wasn’t what I expected but I’m still happy with how it ended, “Okereke said.
“No, I’m not returning to Club Brugge. I was supposed to have resumed training with them but I received a mail saying there’s no need since I’m under negotiation with other teams, so I’ll take my time,” he concluded.
