Aircraft collision involving Middle East Airlines and Turkish Airlines aircraft has occurred at the cargo area of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos state on Wednesday.
The incident, which happened late Wednesday led to the grounding of the two aircraft at the airport.
An Airbus A330-243 owned by Middle East Airlines with registration number OD-MEA, rammed into a parked Boeing 777 airplane with registration number TC-LJC operated by Turkish Airlines, ripping off part of the empennage of the aircraft.
According to Daily Post, sources said the incident occurred when Middle East airbus was taxing.
The MEA airbus, which had been boarding passengers since 12:00pm, had to disembark every passenger on board.
It was learnt that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had been notified and would issue a statement on the incident.
There had been numerous ground collision incidents at the Lagos Airport over the years due to limited space at the airside of the airport.
This is as a result of more activities and higher movement of aircraft traffic that have surpassed the initial plan of the airport.
