Sokoto Recruits 1,150 For Community Policing
No fewer than 50 constables will be recruited from each of the 23 local government areas of Sokoto state in the planned community policing exercise, Sokoto State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Ka’oje has said.
Ka’oje who spoke yesterday during the inauguration of the State Community Policing Committee added that those to be recruited will not only support the operation of the police force but would also help greatly in securing remote communities.
The CP while in Bodinga and Wamakko local government for the inauguration disclosed that the intention was to engage those that understand their areas and its peculiarities to restore security back to their respective communities.
According to Ka’oje, President Muhammadu Buhari had directed the recruitment of community Police as measures towards ending insecurity and reducing crimes to the nearest minimum.
He added, “This is not politics. It is believed that members of the community policing committee know everybody in their community, hence making it easier for them to report criminally minded elements amongst them”.
He further divulged that those to be recruited would be trained by the police for onward posting within the state to cushion the effect of manpower shortage in the system.
Speaking in their respective local governments, the chairman of the committee in Bodinga local government, Alhaji Chica Sifawa and that of Wamakko local government, Dr Bello Abubakar Wamakko appealed to locals to not only embrace but also support the federal government’s community policing initiative.
In a similar charge, the sole administrators of Bodinga local government, Hon Abdullahi Mohammed Danchadi and that of Wamakko local government, Hon Bello Halilu Guiwa who was represented by his deputy, Zubairu Muhammad commended the initiative.
