Stop Tinubu’s Reckless Borrowing, LP Tells Akpabio and Abbas
The Labour Party (LP) has called on the leadership of the National Assembly, particularly Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, to check what it described as President Bola Tinubu’s reckless borrowing spree.
In a strongly worded statement, LP cautioned that the constant approval of fresh loans could plunge Nigeria deeper into economic crisis, burdening future generations with unmanageable debt.
The opposition party urged Akpabio and Abbas to prioritize the interest of Nigerians by scrutinizing loan requests instead of giving blanket approvals to the executive.
According to the LP, the Tinubu administration must focus on reviving local industries, blocking revenue leakages, and cutting down on government waste rather than depending heavily on foreign and domestic borrowing.
The party further stressed that unchecked borrowing would continue to weaken the naira, raise inflation, and push millions of Nigerians into poverty.
This latest warning comes amid growing public concern about Nigeria’s rising debt profile, with many Nigerians demanding more accountability and transparency from both the executive and legislative arms of government.
