A suspected leader of a cult , Olamide Oloruntobi , has been shot dead by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command during a gun battle .
The 31 – year – old , who allegedly terrorised residents of Cele Nizer , in the Ishashi area of Lagos State , was shot dead around 8 . 40 pm on Tuesday .
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer , CSP Chike Oti , said the command had been alerted that members of the Aiye cult were terrorising the area .
He explained that the hoodlums , upon sighting the operatives, opened fire on them.
Oti said , “ The late notorious cult member , who was the leader of the dreaded Aiye Confraternity , met his Waterloo on Durosooto Street, Cele Nizer , New Mebamu , Ishashi , around 8 . 40 pm on Tuesday when the police were alerted that the group, led by the deceased , had started terrorising residents.
“ Based on the information , the Divisional Police Officer , Ishashi division , SP Amuda Abolaji , led a team of policemen to the scene. On arrival , the hoodlums sighted the police team and opened fire on them. This led to an exchange of gunfire . When the dust settled , Olamide Oloruntobi was found dead . Meanwhile , his locally -made pistol with live ammunition has been recovered . The corpse was deposited in the Badagry General Hospital mortuary for autopsy . ”
The police spokesperson said the state Commissioner of Police , Edgal Imohimi , advised parents to warn their children to renounce cultism .
