Two people have been feared dead , while 10 others were rescued alive when a speedboat conveying passengers across the River Benue capsized .
A resident , Mr Joseph Lesku , told journalists that the speedboat was crossing the Karim- Lau trench of the River Benue with 12 people on board when the incident happened .
He noted that local divers rescued 10 persons , including the rider .
He said , “ The boat was coming from the Karim Lamido side of the river and heading towards Lau , Taraba State , when the incident happened .
“ Local divers were able to rescue 10 persons out of the 12 . Unfortunately , two persons are still missing and we are searching for their bodies .
“ Usually at this time of the year, the tide is high and strong , so you cannot expect them to still be alive . We are making efforts to at least recover their bodies . ”
The Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP David Misal , who confirmed the accident, said the search for the remaining two passengers was still ongoing , adding that their chances of survival were low .
