WASSCE: WAEC Warns Against Fake News on Cancelled Results, Scripts Request
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has issued a strong warning to the public over the circulation of fake news concerning the cancellation of WASSCE results and requests for candidates’ scripts. The examination body emphasized that such reports are baseless and aimed at misleading the public, especially candidates and their families.
In an official statement released by WAEC’s Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, the Council clarified that all official updates concerning WASSCE results and script evaluations are communicated through its verified channels. She urged the public to disregard any information that does not originate from WAEC’s official platforms.
The false claims, which have been widely shared across social media and messaging platforms, allege that WAEC cancelled results of some candidates and opened channels for script reviews upon request. WAEC has since debunked these assertions, stating that the Council has established procedures for handling cases of alleged malpractice or result issues, and candidates are duly informed through their schools or centers.
WAEC reiterated that the integrity of the examination process remains a top priority and that candidates should not fall victim to fraudsters who exploit anxiety around results to spread disinformation. The body also warned individuals behind the spread of such fake news to desist or face legal consequences.
Education stakeholders and parents have been urged to verify all examination-related information through WAEC’s official website or contact its offices directly before taking any action based on viral claims.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accuracy in conducting and releasing the results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), calling on the public to stay informed and vigilant.
