Why I Left My Crashed Car With UK Police — Don Jazzy Explains His Past Mistake
Music legend Don Jazzy has finally addressed a resurfaced story about a car accident he had in London early in his career and the misunderstanding that followed. The Mavin Records boss clarified that he didn’t flee from the police as some claimed. Instead, he walked away from his impounded vehicle because getting it back would’ve cost more than the car itself.
According to Don Jazzy, he waited for the authorities to arrive at the scene. When they came, they tested him with a breathalyser and he passed, proving he wasn’t under the influence. The officers impounded the car, and that’s where the issue came in: the fine to retrieve it was higher than the low-cost vehicle, so he opted to leave it with the UK police. His former associate, Bankulli, had told a different version, claiming Don Jazzy removed the car’s license plate and abandoned it out of fear. But Don Jazzy dismissed these allegations, urging people not to panic — it happened decades ago, and he no longer remembers every detail.
Legal experts looking into the case say that even if there was ground for prosecution, the incident likely falls under a minor traffic offence — and because it happened almost 20 years ago, it’s probably statute-barred, meaning UK law likely no longer allows for reopening the case.
