Ace Nigerian comedian and actor Alibaba Akpobome, popularly known as Alibaba, has stirred conversation on social media after openly declaring his support for polygamy. The veteran entertainer, widely regarded as the “King of Comedy” in Nigeria, revealed his perspective during a recent interview where he discussed marriage, culture, and societal expectations in modern Nigeria.
According to Alibaba, polygamy is not a new concept but one deeply rooted in African tradition and history, long before western ideals influenced local customs. He explained that while it may not suit everyone, it remains a valid choice for men who can handle the responsibilities—financially, emotionally, and socially.
“Polygamy has existed in our culture for centuries. The problem is not the practice itself, but people going into it without understanding the responsibility that comes with it,” Alibaba said.
He further noted that many relationships fail today because people adopt foreign ideologies without considering the realities of their environment and personal capacity. The comedian stressed that his support for polygamy does not promote infidelity but rather honesty and structure in situations where a man chooses to be with more than one woman.
