Why some gospel musicians left is revealed by Oyakhilome. Christ of Embassy
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, the founder of LoveWorld, also called Christ Embassy, has given an explanation for why several gospel performers left his church.
Oyakhilome claims that the musicians prioritized fame and money over their spiritual purpose. He was worried that church worship had become more secular and that music was no longer a genuine expression of devotion.
He saw that although these artists enthusiastically led worship and praise, they frequently skipped prayer times, which he interpreted as an indication that they were not sincere in their desire to serve God.
In a widely shared video, Oyakhilome said that the church had been transformed into a celebration venue rather than a place of prayer where God’s message was genuinely honored. “They led praise in church and left when it was time for prayers; they weren’t soul winners.”
He added that many of the musicians had started charging for their performances, putting their own financial gain ahead of their spiritual obligations. Although he first praised their achievements, he eventually attempted to steer them in a different direction but encountered opposition.
“I informed them that the Lord desired for us to act morally. They were too well-known, and even though they were earning little money, do they understand what large money is? They didn’t want to follow me, so they took a diversion since the meager money they were earning was too alluring to them,” he stated.
The 61-year-old expressed his wish that they would change their ways.
