Wike donates 50 cars and requests that security forces pursue criminals in the FCT.
Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has given fifty functioning cars to the region’s security forces.
As he turned over the cars in Abuja on Thursday, Mr. Wike urged the security forces to pursue the offenders in their hiding places around the Federal Capital Territory.
He asked the security services to avoid giving the criminals room or letting them attack before pursuing them.
“You must show them that we are serious by bringing the conflict to them.
“Make sure we don’t give them any gaps during this festive period,” the minister stated.
According to him, 50 of the 100 functioning cars that the FCT Administration has donated to security agencies so far were given out in July.
After a series of interventions by the present administration, the minister boasted that the security situation in the region had significantly improved.
“People can vouch for the fact that Abuja’s security has improved. It wasn’t easy when we first arrived here a year ago since everyone was complaining that Abuja was insecure.
“We guaranteed the stakeholders in every area council that they would notice a shift, and I’m grateful that individuals have been coming forward to say that they have seen
the transformation and that they may now sleep with both eyes shut,” he stated.
Mr. Wike revealed that 12 Police Divisional Officers were presently being built by the FCTA throughout the six area councils.
In April 2025, he stated, the offices should be finished, outfitted, and turned over to the police.
He claims that this is a component of FCTA’s assistance to improve security in the satellite towns and the city center.
“In every government, security is essential. A government has no right to exist if it is unable to defend its citizens, their lives, or their property.
Security is the most important aspect of governance. Other things will happen after your folks are confident enough to sleep with their eyes closed, he continued.
Adamu Gwary, the director of FCTA’s Security Services Department, added that organized vigilante and hunting organizations were also receiving operational and logistical help.
According to Mr. Gwary, the reason for supporting vigilante and hunting organizations is that they are assisting security forces in rural areas.
He claimed that the number of reported crimes and criminal activity in the FCT had significantly decreased, namely in relation to kidnappings, banditry, conflicts between farmers and herders, and conflicts between communities.
He claims that in the FCT, these security issues are essentially going extinct.
The Administration is adamant that these crime-fighting tools will significantly strengthen and empower our security forces to combat crime and illicit activity.
Additionally, it would enable security services to meet the security challenges facing the region and react quickly to emergency circumstances.
“More is anticipated to ensure that the territory is effectively covered by security.”
Speaking on behalf of the security agencies, Olatunji Disu, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, expressed gratitude to Wike for the ongoing assistance.
“The delivery of the operable vehicles demonstrated the FCT Administration’s dedication to improving the operating capabilities of
security organizations.
Your unshakable commitment in our goal to protect the lives and property of all inhabitants within the FCT is demonstrated by your support, which goes beyond simple logistical assistance.
The commissioner stated, “These vehicles will greatly improve our ability to conduct patrols, participate in community policing initiatives, and respond quickly to emergencies.”
