Yemi Alade: The Reasons Behind My Multilingual Singing Career
The Nigerian singer Yemi Alade has explained why she sings in multiple languages.
The singer said in a CNN interview that she started singing in several languages when her hit song “Johnny” became well-known throughout the world, especially in Paris.
She added that she adopted various languages because she wanted to “communicate” with her varied audience.
“Paris is among the cities that welcomed my music, and I became even more enamored with French,” she remarked.
I chose to translate my songs into different languages because I wanted to communicate. That was the beginning of the love affair between languages.
Alade added that receiving a Grammy nod for 2025 feels like a “miracle in my life”.
She urged others to keep chasing their aspirations despite the challenges, saying she previously questioned if she would ever be nominated for the prize.
It seems quite strange to be nominated for a Grammy. She continued, “It’s a good time to be alive.”
“I nearly believed that this day would never arrive. It gave me confidence that everyone can do anything and made me feel seen. Even if the world urges you to give up, you must believe and keep going.
Alade is being nominated for her first Grammy.
Yemi Alade’s song “Tomorrow” earned her a nomination in the category of “Best African Music Performance.”
