Zlatan Ibrahimovic To Miss Milan’s Europa League Match Against Man United Over Injury
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been denied an Old Trafford return as he is ruled out of AC Milan‘s Europa League tie with Manchester United over injury.
He suffered a thigh muscle injury during their Serie A clash with AS Roma during the weekend.
The Swedish forward underwent tests after coming off during the 2-1 victory in Rome, and it was confirmed that he is suffering from an adductor problem that causes groin injury and pain among athletes.
Jose Mourinho, while working as United manager, signed the 39-year-old Swedish star in 2016 after Ibrahimovic left Paris Saint-Germain.
The AC Milan striker was due to return to Old Trafford to play against his former side in last-16 of Europa League, but he will unfortunately miss out from the fun, Goal reports.
The first leg at Old Trafford is scheduled for Thursday, March 11. The return leg is a week later on March 18, but it is unlikely that the Swede will be available for this match too, with the injury set to be reassessed in 10 days.
Ibrahimovic departed United in 2018 for LA Galaxy, where he netted 29 goals and ten assists in 53 appearances in all competitions.
Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been looking forward to face the big striker, saying;
We do have the tradition of making it hard for ourselves in draws. It’s one of the those draws again that you feel could be a Champions League game. It’s good for us to have these games to look forward to. This team needs challenges and we enjoy challenges and we embrace them.
The tradition and history of AC Milan, it’s a great club that we welcome and it’s a great stadium that we go to there, and we’re looking forward to it.
Zlatan, of course, I’ve been so impressed, I’ve got to say, by how his career has gone. He had a career-threatening injury when he was here but came back from that and went to [the] MLS, then came back to Milan and has really lifted them.
They’re on the up and have done really well this season. I’ve been so impressed by him.
Milan will now visit Red Devils at Old Trafford on for the first leg of their round-of-16 tie without one of their star players.
