Labour Party Spokesman Blasts Peter Obi, Hints at Expulsion Over ADC Alliance

Tensions within the Labour Party (LP) have escalated as the party’s national spokesman issued a scathing criticism of Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, over his recent political alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The spokesman, whose identity was confirmed by party sources, did not mince words, describing Obi’s moves as “unauthorized and self-serving,” and even hinted at a possible expulsion if the former Anambra governor continues on his current trajectory.

The controversy stems from Peter Obi’s participation in recent strategic talks and public appearances alongside ADC leadership, where calls for a “Third Force coalition” were openly discussed. According to the LP spokesman, Obi’s actions were not sanctioned by the Labour Party leadership and amount to “anti-party activities” that could lead to disciplinary measures.

“It is important for members, regardless of their status, to respect the constitution and internal structure of the Labour Party,” the spokesman said. “Peter Obi’s involvement with ADC without clearance from the national leadership raises serious concerns, and if this persists, the party may have no option but to initiate disciplinary action, including possible expulsion.”

Obi, who galvanized millions of youths and first-time voters during the 2023 general elections under the LP platform, has not officially responded to the backlash. However, close associates suggest that the former presidential candidate is focused on building a broader political movement ahead of 2027 and believes that strategic alliances with like-minded parties are essential to challenging the dominance of APC and PDP.

The growing rift has sparked mixed reactions across political circles and social media. While some party loyalists believe Obi should be reined in to maintain party discipline, others argue that the Labour Party should be flexible and open to progressive partnerships aimed at reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape.

As internal party conflicts continue to unfold, the spotlight remains firmly on whether the Labour Party will risk alienating its most prominent figure or find a middle ground that preserves unity while addressing rising tensions. Either way, the unfolding drama signals deep cracks within the party as it charts its future path.
