Senate Clears Air Peace of Negligence, Faults NSIB Over Drug Allegations
The Nigerian Senate has officially cleared Air Peace of any wrongdoing or negligence in connection with recent drug allegations that surfaced following a controversial report by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB). After a detailed review of the situation, lawmakers faulted the NSIB for what they described as “procedural lapses and unverified claims” that could have unfairly tarnished the image of Nigeria’s leading airline.
During plenary, members of the Senate Committee on Aviation emphasized that Air Peace followed due protocols and maintained strict compliance with international aviation standards. The committee further noted that the NSIB’s handling of the investigation lacked transparency and professionalism, creating unnecessary confusion and reputational damage to the airline.
Senators commended Allen Onyema, Air Peace’s CEO, for his commitment to promoting Nigeria’s aviation industry and urged regulatory bodies to work collaboratively with airlines to protect the nation’s reputation. The decision has sparked relief among aviation stakeholders, who see the Senate’s intervention as a vital step toward restoring confidence in the system.
