Omowunmi Dada Opens Up on Why She Can’t Marry Man Who Isn’t Christian

Nollywood actress Omowunmi Dada has opened up about her views on marriage, revealing why she cannot settle down with a man who does not share her Christian faith.

The actress disclosed while speaking with media personality VJ Adams, where she recalled a past relationship that ended after she discovered that the man she was dating had begun observing Islamic practices.

According to Dada, her decision was not based on any dislike for Muslims but on the kind of family she wants to build and how she intends to raise her future children.

Dada explained that she initially met the man as a Christian. However, during Ramadan, he told her that he was fasting because doing so would make his mother happy.

The revelation, according to the actress, became the point at which she realised that their relationship could not continue.

She said she wanted a husband who would share her Christian faith and with whom she could raise their children according to those beliefs.

Dada revealed that the man attempted to convince her to remain in the relationship, including offering to attend church with her.

However, she said attending church together was not enough because he also wanted their future children to visit the mosque and learn about Islam.

For the actress, the issue went beyond where the couple worshipped. It concerned the religious foundation of the family they hoped to build.

She explained that she wants to be able to share one faith with her husband and raise her children within the Christian tradition.

While explaining her position, the actress was careful to distinguish her personal marriage preference from her feelings towards Muslims.

Dada said she has Muslim friends whom she considers “amazing people” and stressed that her decision was not motivated by hostility towards Islam.

Rather, she said her choice is based on her personal convictions and the type of family structure she wants for herself and her future children.

Dada’s comments highlight how questions about religion can influence decisions around marriage, particularly where couples have different expectations about worship and the religious upbringing of their children.

For the actress, sharing the same faith with her future husband is an important part of achieving the family unity she wants.
