Ogogo’s Daughter Announces 40-Day Prayer in Late Actor’s Honour
The daughter of late veteran Nollywood actor **Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, Kira Taiwo, has announced plans for a 40-day prayer gathering in honour of her father.
Kira made the announcement as the family continues with the Islamic rites and commemorative activities following the actor’s death in August.
The 40-day prayer is part of the family’s efforts to honour Ogogo and remember his contributions to the Nigerian film industry.
Ogogo died on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, after battling cancer.
His remains were buried the following day in Ilaro, Ogun State, in accordance with Islamic rites. Kira confirmed her father’s burial in an emotional social media post shortly after the ceremony.
The burial attracted several prominent Nollywood personalities, including Yinka Quadri, Jide Kosoko, Femi Adebayo, Dele Odule, Ireti Osayemi, Toyosi Adesanya and Saidi Balogun, among others.
The announcement of the 40-day prayer comes after the family held an eighth-day Fidau prayer for the late actor in Ilaro on August 31.
The family had earlier announced that an Artists’ Day would also be held 40 days after Ogogo’s burial at the Pavilion Hall in Ilaro.
The Artists’ Day was described as a special tribute from members of the entertainment industry, with actors, musicians, comedians and other entertainers expected to come together to celebrate Ogogo’s life and legacy. The programme was announced to be coordinated by the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN).
Ogogo was one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language cinema, having begun his acting career in 1981 before eventually making acting his full-time profession.
Over the years, he featured in numerous Nigerian productions, including Owo Blow, Aníkúlápó, Bank Alert, Agbelebu, Atitebi and Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre.
His death prompted an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, friends and fans, many of whom remembered him for his contribution to Yoruba theatre and film.
The 40-day prayer will therefore provide another opportunity for Ogogo’s family, colleagues and well-wishers to come together in remembrance of the late actor and to pray for the repose of his soul.
