MTN, Omoni Oboli Unveil Seven Christmas Films for 2026 Festive Season

MTN Nigeria has partnered with popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli to deliver seven Christmas-themed movies as part of efforts to promote Nigerian storytelling and make locally produced entertainment more accessible.

The collaboration was unveiled at the MTN x Omoni Oboli TV Christmas Movie Mixer held at MTN’s Rooftop Event Centre in Falomo, Ikoyi, Lagos. The event brought together actors, filmmakers, content creators and other stakeholders in the entertainment industry.

The seven productions will be released on Omoni Oboli TV, the filmmaker’s YouTube platform, with the first movie scheduled to premiere on Friday, November 13, 2026. The remaining films are expected to roll out during the festive season.

Speaking about the project, Oboli described herself as a Christmas movie enthusiast who enjoys watching festive films throughout the holiday season.

She explained that the idea behind the seven-film project was to help audiences embrace the spirit of Christmas through stories centred on family, love, togetherness and relationships.

According to the filmmaker, the project had been in development for approximately four to five months, with scriptwriters working on different stories ahead of the festive period.

Oboli also disclosed that she deliberately keeps movie titles under wraps until their release dates because some YouTube channels allegedly copy announced titles to attract viewers to unrelated productions.

She said the partnership with MTN made it possible to expand the number of films she could produce for the season.

Speaking at the event, Idowu Adesokan, General Manager, Consumer Segments at MTN Nigeria, said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to supporting the creative economy.

He explained that connectivity goes beyond internet access, noting that it can create opportunities for creativity, innovation, employment and business growth.

Adesokan added that the collaboration with Omoni Oboli TV, alongside MTN’s strategic partnership with YouTube, would help connect audiences with locally produced entertainment and give Nigerian creators opportunities to reach wider audiences.

Oboli also highlighted the importance of affordable internet access in helping audiences enjoy locally produced films.

She said MTN’s YouTube data bundles would reduce streaming costs, making it easier for viewers to watch full-length movies without spending excessively on data.

The filmmaker noted that increased viewership could also improve creators’ earnings and create more employment opportunities for actors and other production professionals.

YouTube consultant and independent strategic adviser Berene Jankovich-Besan also spoke about the growing international audience for Nigerian films and the importance of partnerships that direct viewers to creators’ official channels.

The seven-film initiative is expected to give viewers a steady selection of Nigerian Christmas entertainment, with stories inspired by the festive season and the importance of family connections.

Oboli said the project would have been considerably more difficult to execute without MTN’s support, describing the collaboration as an opportunity to expand her Christmas movie tradition.

With the first release scheduled for November 13, audiences can expect the remaining titles to be unveiled as their release dates approach.

The partnership represents another collaboration between Nigeria’s telecommunications and entertainment sectors, with both companies seeking to expand access to locally produced digital content.
