Colleagues Left Me to Die, But God Saved Me — Halima Abubakar
Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has opened up about one of the most difficult periods of her life, revealing that she felt abandoned by some of her colleagues while she was battling serious health challenges.
The actress, speaking in a recent interview with Saturday Beats, said she expected some people in the industry to check on her during her illness but was disappointed by what she experienced.
According to Abubakar, she was left without visits or meaningful support from some colleagues, but she believes her survival was ultimately an act of God.
“They just left me to die, but God said I will live,” she said.
Despite her disappointment, Abubakar said she does not hold a grudge against her colleagues.
She explained that she believes misunderstandings and narratives within the entertainment industry can easily spread when people do not verify information directly from those involved.
The actress recalled an incident in which she said she was asked to write a report but claimed that nothing was done with the report before she was placed on an indefinite suspension.
She also said she was not visited or contacted during her illness, which made the experience particularly painful.
However, Abubakar stressed that she has chosen not to remain trapped in the past.
“I don’t judge them. I’m grateful for every experience. I was angry initially, but I don’t know what they’ve gone through, too,” she said.
Reflecting on her journey, the actress said there were people who did not expect her to survive her health ordeal.
She described the experience as one that changed her outlook on life, saying she has emerged from it as a different person.
Abubakar said she witnessed how different people behaved during her difficult period and remembers the judgments that were made about her, but she is now more focused on the future.
“We’re talking about the future, and I’m a changed person,” she said.
While speaking about the people who stood by her, Abubakar expressed appreciation for several individuals who supported her during her difficult period.
She singled out singer Patoranking as one of the people she reached out to who showed kindness.
She also mentioned footballer Ahmed Musa, whom she said was kind to her.
The actress revealed that she sent messages to Don Jazzy more than 19 times without receiving a response.
Abubakar also expressed particular gratitude to former Big Brother Naija housemate Mercy Eke, describing her support as surprising and meaningful.
She further acknowledged the assistance of younger colleagues including Destiny Etiko, Lizzy Gold, Monica Friday, Queeneth Agbor and Regina Daniels, saying they helped with medical treatment.
For Abubakar, the experience has ultimately strengthened her faith.
The actress said her recovery and survival have deepened her relationship with God and changed the way she approaches life and people.
She acknowledged that the experience was painful, but said she remains grateful for the lessons it taught her.
Despite everything that happened, Abubakar maintained that she still has love for her colleagues and does not want to allow past disappointments to define her future.
Her latest comments offer a glimpse into a difficult chapter of her life while also highlighting her determination to move forward with gratitude, renewed faith and a different perspective.
