Mayorkun: “My Children Must Undergo DNA Tests”
Nigerian Afrobeats singer Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, has revealed that he intends to conduct DNA tests on his future children before accepting them as his.
The singer disclosed during an appearance on the In My Opinion Podcast, where he discussed relationships, marriage, trust, paternity and his plans for fatherhood.
Mayorkun said he had already discussed his position with his girlfriend and informed her that he would want a DNA test whenever she gives birth.
According to the singer, the request is about having certainty and peace of mind rather than simply accusing a partner of infidelity.
“I told my girlfriend we’d have to do a prenup and DNA test when she gives me a child, just to be sure. She got upset.”
Mayorkun added that his position has not changed despite his partner’s reaction.
“I have thought of doing the DNA test without telling her. If it is my child, no issues. If not, everybody will hear about it,” he said.
Mayorkun also revealed that he intends to sign a prenuptial agreement before getting married.
The singer compared the two decisions, describing them as precautions he believes can protect people from serious problems later in life.
He acknowledged that asking a partner to conduct a DNA test can be difficult because it may be interpreted as a sign of distrust.
However, Mayorkun said he remains convinced that establishing paternity early is better than discovering a paternity dispute years later.
The singer explained that his position is driven largely by his desire for peace of mind.
Mayorkun recalled a previous conversation with a woman he was seriously involved with, saying he tried to explain that the request was not necessarily an accusation against her.
He admitted that the discussion was difficult and suggested that many women would not easily accept such a request from their partners.
The singer also referenced cases in which men have reportedly discovered much later that children they raised were not biologically theirs, saying such situations can have serious emotional consequences.
The singer’s remarks have generated fresh discussion on social media about paternity, trust and whether DNA testing should become a routine part of fatherhood.
While some people support Mayorkun’s position as a way of establishing biological certainty, others argue that demanding a DNA test without a specific reason could create unnecessary tension and damage trust in a relationship.
Mayorkun, however, has made his position clear: DNA confirmation and a prenuptial agreement are conditions he currently intends to maintain as he considers marriage and future fatherhood.
His comments have added another celebrity voice to Nigeria’s continuing debate over paternity testing, relationship trust and the responsibilities that come with parenthood.
