NPA Defends ₦1.489tn Budget, Plans Apapa, Tin Can Ports Revamp
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has defended its proposed ₦1.489 trillion budget, detailing ambitious plans to overhaul key port infrastructure, particularly Apapa Port and Tin Can Island Port.
The agency says the move is aimed at improving efficiency, reducing congestion, and boosting Nigeria’s trade capacity.
The NPA explained that the budget reflects the scale of infrastructure challenges facing the country’s ports, including aging facilities, congestion, and operational inefficiencies.

The planned revamp will target two of Nigeria’s busiest ports:
- Apapa Port – the nation’s primary commercial seaport
- Tin Can Island Port – a major hub for containerized cargo
